Creative Mentoring®, a program of Connecting Generations, supports in-school mentoring programs in New Castle, Kent and Sussex Counties of Delaware. We provide quality training to volunteer in-school mentors as well as help schools design and implement quality in-school mentoring programs.
The Creative Mentoring® Program Works. Research shows that a mentor relationship can be one of the most important relationships in a child's development. Mentoring helps children become all they can be by helping to build self-esteem, self-confidence, interpersonal communication skills, social values, aspirations, and scholastic achievement. Creative Mentors help children; through personal, one-on-one time in schools once a week; develop their unique qualities and reach their full potential.
The Creative Mentoring® program has grown enormously over the past ten years. In 1996 there were 60 Creative Mentors in nine northern Delaware schools. Today we partner with 80 schools throughout our state to provide quality in-school mentoring programs, with more than 700 active Creative Mentors. In addition, we are the only organization in Delaware providing free, regularly scheduled mentor training to any adult who wishes to mentor a Delaware school child, whether in a Creative Mentoring program or any other program of their choice.
Creative Mentoring® has served more than 7,000 children and adults in Delaware and other states, employing a unique intergenerational approach—the Connecting Generations Process—to connect the generations in a way that brings out the best in them.
